Holy Cross Catholic Primary School

RE

“We all have the duty to do good.”
Pope Francis

At Holy Cross, we place Jesus Christ at the centre of all we do. Our children are visible disciples of Jesus and they demonstrate how to live out their faith through their words and deeds. We foster our relationship of love with God and other people through daily prayer, acts of worship and celebrations of liturgy.

Curriculum:

Through all school activities we aim to deepen children’s faith and help them grow in the love of God. We provide a creative and broad curriculum which enables them to be innately spiritual and understand the place that God has in their lives.

RE lessons are different from any others, children learn about our faith but also learn from our faith and how it relates to them and their lives.

Children listen, discuss, reflect and take part in a whole range of creative activities such as: role play, singing and art. Through our lessons, we try to enable children to understand scripture and worship.

Across all year groups in our School, from Nursery to Year 6, we follow a scheme entitled ‘The Way, the Truth and the Life’.

Collective worship and prayer:

Our School holds prayers and collective worship regularly throughout the week, through communal prayers, assemblies, hymn practice as well as prayers in class.

Children join and lead collective worship and take part in class and whole school Masses, which happen both in school and in our Holy Cross parish church.

Links to Holy Cross Parish:

Here at Holy Cross, we are lucky enough to be situated next door to our Parish Church. Our Parish Priest, Father Antony, regularly visits the school, celebrates collective worships and Masses and is a link with the wider community of the church.

Our children, supported by the School, are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist, in their parishes.

Catholic Life of the School:

The rich Catholic Life of our School enables our children to enjoy, understand and partake in their faith. We follow the Liturgical Year and celebrations are planned in accordance with this. Activities enjoyed by the children include:

  • Altar Service Training
  • Grow In Faith Together
  • Mini Vinnies
  • Crowning of Mary
  • Harvest Appeal
  • Lenten Breakfast
  • Passion Play
  • RE Creative Week
  • Creative Stations of The Cross
  • Other Faiths Week

These help our children to deepen their Christian values, develop an understanding and respect for the beliefs of others and live out the Gospel values in their everyday lives.
