Science

“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”
Marie Curie

“Science is in everything we see and hear. Everything we are able to do in our lives is due to Science. We have always lived in a world surrounded by these wonders, but now more than ever, Science in at the forefront of our day to day lives and for this reason, we understand its importance”

“Science is fun. Science is curiosity. We all have natural curiosity. Science is a process of investigating. It’s posing questions and coming up with a method. It’s delving in”
Sally Ride

At Holy Cross, we want to children to be inspired and enthused by Science. We want them to have a good grasp of scientific knowledge, to learn about famous scientists and inventors and to be able to develop the scientific skills of questioning, investigating, analysing, comparing and observing which are skills that are both transferrable and essential. They will learn a range of topics which show clear progression within the year and across the year groups and key stages. Most knowledge is gained through practical work, investigation or research and is consolidated in further lessons and topics.

At Holy Cross, we are very aware of our responsibility to look after our precious planet and have formed our own team of Eco Warriors who make plans and take on whole school responsibilities to ensure Holy Cross is as eco friendly as possible.

“Scientists have become the bearers of the torch of discovery in our quest for knowledge.”
Stephen Hawking
